Once again in 2006, Troop 868 was asked to perform color guard detail for the season opening kickoff parade of Okolona Little League Baseball.  Four uniformed scouts marched down Preston Highway from Home Depot to Southern High School behind two Okolona Fire Department engines that cleared a path.  The scouts carried the flags of the United States and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  Following behind were units from the Louisville Metro Police Department, various local dignitaries, and several dozen Okolona Little League baseball teams each carrying team banners.

The parade ended on the main ball field behind Southern High School where scouts continued to proudly hold the colors in front of second base as all the players assembled in the outfield behind them and Okolona Little League President Cliff Kessler presided over a short opening ceremony that included singing of the national anthem, a few recognitions, and brief remarks by several local officials.

From start to finish, the entire project required a bit more than an hour of scouts' time but provided positive exposure for the unit as well as a community service for the little league association.  It was time well-spent and we appreciated being asked to participate.

Scouts led the procession up the access road to the ball fields behind Southern High School. Once there, the color guard took their place near second base and waited for all the little teams to all arrive and assemble.
(L to R):  Chris, Patrick, J.D. (hidden by U.S. flag), and John (hidden by Kentucky flag). The scouts came to attention as the ceremony began and a vocalist stepped forward to sing the national anthem.
