Troop 868 returned for the fourth straight year to assist with the annual "TrashMaster's Classic" lakeshore clean-up at Barren River Lake. Rather than camp overnight this year, the troop elected to make an early Saturday morning departure from Shepherdsville for a single day activity. A smaller than usual group of five scouts and three adults made the outing. For the first time, the group worked from the boat ramp at The Narrows recreation area. This exposed us to a different section of the lakeshore than we had worked in prior years and turned out to be very convenient to the picnic hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers following the event. Our group didn't win any door prizes or recognitions for finding any items of particularly unusual trash, but we did collect 5 tires and 36 large bags of cans, bottles, and general litter. It was a beautiful day with sunny skies and cooler than normal temperature --- a great day to be scouring beaches and hillsides for garbage!
