Troop 868 returned to Barren River Lake to participate in the annual "Trashmasters' Classic" lakeshore cleanup project in mid-September.  We divided our group into two crews and boarded pontoon boats to be ferried to different sections of the lakeshore.  Each crew spent about 3 hours combing the shoreline to pickup litter than ranged from the usual plastic bottles and styrofoam to tires, plastic toys, and light bulbs.  In total, our group filled more than sixty 30-gallon trash bags with trash and recovered 7 old tires.

The pontoon boats ferried us back to the dock at The Narrows public campground around noon and we boarded the troop bus to drive a few miles to the beach at Barren River State Resort Park for lunch and the traditional "beach party."  Our scouts got a chance to swim, play on the beach, and one boy even won 2 door prizes totaling nearly $200 in value!

The weather was perfect --- a bit cooler than normal with overcast skies.  It wasn't too hot to work and no one got sunburned.  We departed the state park late afternoon and arrived back in Shepherdsville in time to have dinner at home with our families.
